Oracle Corporation is an enterprise software company, which develops, manufactures, markets, distributes and services database and middleware software, as well as applications software designed to help its customers manage and grow their business operations. Oracle is organized into two business divisions: software and services. The company’s software business is further organized into two operating units: new software licenses, and software license updates and product support. Oracle's services business is further organized into three operating units: consulting, advanced product services and education. In January 2005, Oracle acquired PeopleSoft, Inc., a provider of enterprise application software products. In April 2005, Oracle acquired Retek, Inc., a provider of software solutions and services to the retail industry. In March 2005, Oracle acquired Oblix, Inc., a privately held developer of identity-based security solutions for heterogeneous computing systems.
