What’s the buzz—
Gilead Sciences, Inc. is a biopharmaceutical company
that discovers, develops and commercializes therapeutics to advance the care
of patients suffering from life-threatening diseases globally. Gilead
Sciences’ products, of which eight have been approved, include Viread,
Emtriva, Truvada, DaunoXome, Vistide, AmBisome, Hepsera, Macugen and Tamiflu.
In December 2004, Gilead entered into a collaboration agreement with
Bristol-Myers Squibb to develop and commercialize the fixed-dose combination
of Gilead's Truvada and BMS's Sustiva in the United States. Structured as a
joint venture, Gilead and BMS formed the
limited liability company, Bristol-Myers Squibb & Gilead Sciences, LLC.
If approved, the new product would be a complete highly active antiretroviral
therapy treatment regimen for human immunodeficiency virus available in a
fixed-dose combination taken once daily.
